Iran has once again emphasized that it wants its rights from the Afghan side. Iran’s Foreign Minister Amir Abdullahian said in a speech to the country’s parliament that they want Turkey and Afghanistan to restore their rights. According to him, if even a drop of his right is in the river of Helmand, he will insist on asking for it. He added that he is also solving the existing water problems with Turkey and wants the right of water from this country. The Iranian side is making these statements at a time when the Afghan government is saying that it will supply water to Iran only based on the agreements made and beyond that, no new agreement or contract will be made with Iran.
Meanwhile, Iran does not have any rights in the headwaters of Afghanistan’s rivers. Iran wants to take the water of Afghanistan’s rivers under a pretext.
